Sewage- related diseases can be transmitted through:

  • Waterborne route ( e.g.  cholera, dysentery, hepatitis A & E, typhoid, paratyphoid,  poliomyelitis e.t.c)
  • Skin penetration (e.g. hookworm, schistosomiasis)
  • Food or soil ( ascaris, trichuriasis)

The control of sewage-related diseases include prevention of faecal contamination of water, food and hand.

Other methods include provision of good water, adequate washing of vegetables and fruits before eating, fly control and personal hygiene.
